In this type, the tube bundle is located on the suction side of the fan. Virtually one can see the fan is located above the tube bundle.
Advantages
• A better air distribution across tube bundles
• Less possibility of hot effluent air recirculating to inlet, the velocity of hot effluent air is higher than inlet air velocity (approximately 2.5 times)
• Less fouling, the plenum covers 60% of bundle surface area and prevents from sun, rain and dirt
• High natural draft capability on fan failure
Disadvantages
• Possibly more power requirement if effluent air is very hot
• Limitation of effluent air to prevent fan failure
• Less accessible for fan maintenance and bundle replacement
• Maintenance may have to be done in hot effluent air caused by natural convection
